Navy Seaman Carol S. Anthony, daughter of Hazel M. Hasting, Gallatin, recently conducted a port visit to Brindisi, Italy, while on a six-month deployment stationed aboard the amphibious assault ship and Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) flagship USS Kearsarge, home ported in Norfolk, Va.

While in port, Anthony and fellow crew members had the opportunity to tour Rome and Naples before returning to its station off the coast of Yugoslavia in support of NATO operations there.

Anthony’s ship and its embarked Marines present a formidable U.S. presence which can provide a rapid response in times of crisis. Sailors and Marines aboard USS Kearsarge can conduct a variety of missions from reconnaissance and amphibious assaults to evacuating civilians and providing humanitarian aid. The 1996 graduate of Maysville High School joined the Navy in February 1998.
