Work on the combined heating and air conditioning units is presently underway at the Gallatin R-5 High School. R.L. Grigg’s received the bid to install the units at a cost of $215,000.
City Administrator Jason Helton presented the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education a cost analysis of natural gas utility service for the heating units and the board accepted that bid at their regular meeting held June 17.
Other summer improvement projects include: cutting off the bottom of the elementary boiler and replacing it with a new portion at an estimated cost of $25,000; consideration of a bid to redo the district’s walk-in freezer; discussion of asphalt repair, roof repair and finishing more of the bleacher project on the football field.
The school has applied for a Technology Literacy Grant of $55,000 and an Incentive Grant of $30,000. Word on final approval of the grants won’t be received until after July 1.
During financial reports, the 1999-2000 budget was presented. The school has a deficit budget in the amount of $230,000. The controlled deficit expenditure is for the heating and cooling units on the high school roof and is expected to be amended downward.
The board accepted the following bids: MFA Oil Co. #2 fuel oil at .507 cents per gallon (escalating bid); Ferrellgas at .409 (firm bid for remaining LP usage); Roberts Dairy for dairy products; Continental for bread products; and diesel fuel for the busses split bid between MFA and John’s Amoco. The board accepted a bid from Bethany Trust Company for bank accounting until 2002.
During administrative reports, Elementary Principal Marty Sweatman and High School Principal Mike Burrell presented 1999-2000 handbooks for the board to look at on a preliminary basis. The handbooks will be adopted in July.
Bills in the amount of $395,000 were approved for payment.
Present at the regular meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education held June 17 were board members Bill Irby, Junior Burke, Vance Hefly, Stan Ellis, Danny Dixon, Sandra Alden and Roy Pendleton.
