Several vacant teaching positions were filled during the regular May meeting of the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education. David Schoeneck was hired as instrumental music instructor, Shannon McBroom for an elementary position, Kelly Milholland as elementary art teacher, and Chris Elbert as A+ Program coordinator.
During old business, Superintendent Jim Ruse discussed minor roof repairs on the elementary building with the board. He presented a Unicom Company report. The board discussed various ways to upgrade the heating system, lighting and the roof and reviewed future ideas for obtaining the most efficient and cost-effective avenue to their goal, including a possible lease-purchase agreement.
During new business, the board renewed health insurance for the R-5 staff with a 13% increase. The renewal is about average for the state. Other schools have had much larger increases, as high as 46%.The insurance is with MSTA, underwritten by Forest T. Jones.
The superintendent’s report covered bids due in June, boiler repair at the, and asphalt repairs in front of the high school.
Both principals reported on summer school projects for school year 1999-2000.
Bills in the amount of $155,587 were approved for payment.
