An interim status report relating to the outstanding debt refinancing for the city was provided by Greg Vahrenberg of Piper Jaffray during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, May 24, at city hall. Inquiries and presentations have been made to a number of groups and entities. Responses from these entities continue to be received. A final recommendation will be based on these responses.
In other financial matters, R. Scott Stephens, CPA, presented the 1998 Audited Financial Statements to the board.
Surplus and salvage equipment and materials in the amount of $12,695 from the electric distribution project has been sold to the city of Bethany.
Bills in the amount of $108,760.77 were approved for payment.
In other business at Monday night’s meeting, two bills regarding city codes relating to traffic regulations were tabled. A bill to prohibit parking on the west side of South Daviess Street was also tabled.
Superintendent of Utilities Roger Loxterman gave an update on the amount of time, expenses, and equipment necessary to mow the city parks.
City Administrator Jason Helton stated that future consideration may be given to develop RV sites at Dockery Park. There are currently no hook-ups for RV’s at the park.
A representative of Green Hills Regional Planning Commission was to be in Gallatin on May 25 to discuss the remaining close-out activities of the business park as well as the sewer project.
Alderman Norma Griffin stated that a citizen informed her that a commercial sign was blocking the view of traffic at Van Buren and Main.
Alderman Bob Snidow noted that year-to-date revenues and expenses appeared to be in line with the budget.
Alderman Bill McGinnis inquired about the status of the business park grants.
Alderman Larry Barnes stated that any savings from the refinancing ought to be used for various improvement projects.
