An early morning fire at the rural Gallatin residence of Fred and Pam Parker did extensive damage to the house and contents. The Parkers were at home asleep when the fire broke out. They woke up to the smell of smoke and called the Gallatin Fire Department at about 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 24.

According to Fire Chief Eric Kloepping, about 15 volunteers responded to the call. The house, located northwest of Gallatin, was full of smoke when fire fighters arrived, and the attic caught fire. Fire fighters battled the blaze until 9:30 that morning.

Kloepping stated that the house was extensively damaged with the roof destroyed. Some items were removed from the house including guns, pictures, valuables, some clothing, some appliances and household items, but the furniture was mostly ruined. It was determined that the fire started in the furnace area and is thought to have been caused by an electrical problem.

A local church congregation helped with motel expenses for two nights and took an offering to assist the family. A 5th wheel camper has been loaned to the Parkers for temporary accommodations.
