Auditions will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of ALADDIN on July 8 at the Courter Theater in Gallatin, from 10 a.m. to noon. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:45 a.m. to register and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
Among the roles to be cast are Aladdin and his mother; the Princess Dory and her father, the Sultan; along with his adviser the Grand Vizier; the keeper of the Book of Answers; Dinazade, and her sister Scheherazade; the Mysterious One; some mischievous genies; a stubborn donkey; a spunky goat; scheming Cassim; Ali Baba; Sinbad and his Sailors; wise-cracking palm trees and fleet-footed camels; a Cave of Wonders; vagabonds; and even a pack of lost penguins.
Children entering first through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. MCT tour actor/directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. each day. A workshop will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for sixth grade and up entitled “Acting.” There will be a workshop on Thursday at 3 p.m. for 2nd-5th grades entitled “Mime.”
Aladdin will be presented on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at the Courter Theater in Gallatin.
