Gallatin’s Marching Bulldog band won first place in their division in parade competition at Central Missouri State University on Saturday.

Gallatin’s quest for a berth in the Class 1 softball Final Four ended Saturday when Jefferson recorded the game’s final out and held on to a 3-2 victory over the Lady Bulldogs. Gallatin finished the season with an all-time GHS best record (winning %) of 15-3.

Four GHS students have been selected to PRIMO/ACES this year, Tye Humphrey, Wren Tolen, Kayle Hefley and Lacey Dixon. They join Alyssa Strein, Colt Bohannon and Riley Rains to make seven students who have joined a program geared for students interested in a primary care profession.

Oct. 16, 1996

Reigning over 1996 GHS Homecoming festivities were Michael Whitney, son of Kenney and Suzy Whitney, and Jamie Gray, daughter of Sally Hunt.

Gallatin rallied for three late touchdowns to pull out a 21-14 upset win over defending GRC champion Tarkio last Friday night.

The Pattonsburg Panthers swept to a 3-0 record on their way to their second straight boys state softball title in Chillicothe. Members of the team are Jeremy Gannon, Jacky Walker, Matthew Nalle, Nathan Woodward, Ace Comber, Dustin Sperry, Steven Mooney, Mike Eskridge, Aaron Mason, Tony Pelletier and Steven Schweedler. Coaches are Troy Clawson and Jeff Bowland.

Oct. 22, 1986

Gallatin’s Marching Bulldog band won first place in the Class 2A Division of the Missouri Western State College Homecoming Parade last Saturday.

Deputy Sheriff Robert E. Smith, 31, of Gallatin, is recovering satisfactorily from gunshot wounds to the shoulder, face and neck, following a hunting accident Saturday morning. Smith had left his turkey stand and was walking through timber when he was accidentally shot by another hunter, a minor.

Oct. 21, 1976

Only the shell of the old Lindell Hotel in Pattonsburg remained after fire ravaged the structure early Friday morning. Robert “Fuzz” Harrod, 48, died in the blaze. He had been staying in the basement of the building for some time and it is thought that the fire may have originated in that area.

Following a very trying day of informal initiation, 15 girls were formally accepted in the Gallatin FHA Chapter last week. They are Julie Critten, Terri Allen, Terri Barnett, Barb Howard, Linda Searcy, Tammy Barlow, Iris Campbell, Robin Cox, Sherri Barnett, Mary Beth Dickey, Susie Pierce, Sandra Gay, Sandra Critten, Penny Swofford, Joan Daniels and Laurie Moulin.

Robert Whetstone, Gallatin furniture and appliance dealer, received the Missouri “Dealer of the Year Award” at the Hilton Hotel in Hong Kong on his recent all-expense paid trip there as a guest of the Gibson Refrigerator Corporation.

Thursday and Saturday at the Courter Theatre, “Born Free.” Sunday through Tuesday, “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.”

Tommy Call, Jamesport, won the picker-sheller class with a score of 92.9 points Friday at the National Corn Picking Contest held at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The continued hold of the drought on this area has prompted a warning from Art Coon, city light and water superintendent, to residents that every effort should be made to conserve water. The city will encourage the county court to install a pump on the Grand River to enable farmers to obtain stock water.

Two of the latest school improvement projects in Daviess County are the new addition to the Winston School which adjoins the old building to the north and east, and the Pattonsburg addition nearing completion.

Oct. 17, 1946

Miss Patricia Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hamilton, east of Gallatin, will represent ten Northwest Missouri counties in the state 4-H dress review contest at Columbia.

Garland Lockridge of Jamesport was the winner, Arthur McAllister of Jamesport was second and Jess Wilson of Gallatin was third in the corn shucking contest held yesterday, a feature of Fall Harvest Week.

Thieves entered the Gallatin High School building Wednesday night last week, forced open the steel vault in the superintendent’s office and made off with approximately $200 in cash. Entry to the school was gained through an unlocked window. Similar school building robberies have been reported at Plattsburg, Gower and Hamilton in the last several days.
