On June 19, Megan Lewis wrote that her two horses, Lady and Mo (short for Missouri) were staying with Mike and Bonnie Robinson at Eagle Mountain, Utah, while she takes a respite from riding.
Ms. Lewis, 65, is the rider and writer behind “The Long Horse Ride”, a blog and website about her international travels via horseback. Since 2008, Ms. Lewis has been riding across the world, raising money along the way for Challenge Aid, a charity founded by her husband, Lestyn Thomas, that creates self-sustaining health and education projects to benefit children in the developing world.
Last winter, Ms. Lewis boarded her horse Lady in Jamesport. She returned in the Spring and bought a pack horse in Missouri and named him for his home state.
After arriving at Eagle Mountain, Ms. Lewis and the Robinson family left briefly to see the Pony Express Re-ride as it was passing through. They came home to find Lady and Mo had disappeared – a little Facebook research disclosed they were in a neighbor’s corral having been found wandering. Evidently after 4,500 miles Lady and Mo felt they needed yet more adventure and they had escaped via a steep canyon at the back of the field.
Ms. Lewis will be back in Salt Lake in September to continue her journey following the original Pony Express trail westward.
