The Missouri Parliamentary Procedure team composed of five individuals, which included Jamie Brinnen and Kaymon Witt of Gallatin, earned second place out of more than 85 other parliamentary procedure teams during the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Tennessee. This is the highest that any Missouri Parli team has ever placed at the conference.
Jamie Brinnen, Kaymon Witt, Breanne Brammer, and adviser Barb Holcomb represented the state of Missouri at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., July 14-17.
Jamie Brinnen and Kaymon Witt were members of the Missouri Parliamentary Procedures Team and vied for top honors against state representatives from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands, and the Department of Defense schools worldwide. Jamie served as the team’s chairman. As part of her final duties as Missouri state secretary, Jamie Brinnen also competed in the State Chapter Annual Business Report.
The Parliamentary Procedure event begins with a 100 written question exam over parliamentary knowledge. A team average is composed and the top 10 testing teams proceed to finals where they are presented a problem and must perform a business meeting in front of a panel of judges.
In the State Chapter Annual Business Report, Jamie Brinnen placed fifth in the nation with her 30 page report over the activities of the Missouri chapter of FBLA.
Jamie Brinnen was also recognized at the North Central Region Meeting for earning her America Award, the highest leadership award that may be earned by an FBLA member.
The competition is part of a competitive events program sponsored annually by FBLA-PBL, a professional association for students pursuing business careers. Individuals, local chapters, and state teams compete in over 50 events representing a range of business, career, and leadership development activities. The winners of these challenging and prestigious awards are selected from FBLA-PBL’s over 210,000 members, and have won regional and state competitions to qualify for the national awards program. The 7700 delegates to the 58th annual conference elected national student officers and attended business and leadership workshops in addition to competing in business and career skill events.
This year’s national theme, "FBLA-PBL: Simply the Best!" reflects the goals of FBLA-PBL members, some of the best and the brightest of today’s young people.
While in Nashville, students also had the opportunity to see some sites of Music City. Some of those activities included attending the Grand Ole Opry at Ryman Auditorium, a day in the sun at Nashville Shores, line dancing at the Wildhorse Salon, and even getting to see American Idol tryouts.
