City Administrator Zac Johnson discussed the bids for replacing the streets around the square with hot-mix with the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held Monday, June 23.

The board approved the bid from Herzog Company for milling and asphalt around the three sides of the square in the amount of $73,095, plus $2,285 for additional milling. The project will be paid from the funds collected by the transportation sales tax.

Tom Stechmann with Utility Service Company discussed the water tower maintenance contract. Placed on first and second readings was an ordinance authorizing the city administrator to sign and execute the water tank maintenance contract with Utility Service Company for water tower maintenance.

Don Caillouet with Layne Western discussed the proposal for replacing the filter media at the water plant.

Plant Manager Steve Reid commented about some ditch/drainage problems the city is working on. He informed the board about training last week on the new meter reading hand-held. The new employee, Matt Chambers, has started work.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity form June 9 to June 23. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 3-speeding; 1-statutory rape; 4-peace disturbance; 1-driving with improper plates; 1-possession/consumption of alcohol on public property; a-vandalism; 1-no insurance; 3-code violations. There are five dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards informed the board of some needed repairs at the dog pound.

Bills in the amount of $38,646.95 were approved for payment.

Doug Schulte with Snyder & Associates Engineering expressed appreciation to the board for selecting their firm for the water plant project.

Discussion was held on the Gallatin Livestock Barn regarding rain water run off.

Discussion was held on Park Board appointments. David McLey, Mike Butcher and Casey Griffin were re-appointed to the board for three year terms and Kristy Smith and Ira Sloan were appointed to finish the terms ending June 2009.

Mr. Johnson made a proposal for changing city uniforms. The board agreed with the proposal.

Comments were made by aldermen regarding cemetery stones at Lyle, weeds around the square, dust control on gravel roads and young people driving golf carts.

Present were Mayor Barb Ballew; aldermen Bob Snidow, John Whitfield, Barry Wood and Dan Lockridge; City Administrator Zac Johnson; City Clerk Autumn Acree; Police Chief Mark Richards; Plant Manager Steve Reid; Trudi Burton, Ed Nixon, Carol Walker, Doug Schulte, Don Caillouet and Tom Stechmann. Street Superintendent Teddy Holcomb was absent.
