The Winston Gun Club and Venture Crew 167 traveled to Sparta, Ill., to participate in the National Grand American on Aug. 6-9.
The members were able to visit the many vendors and collect pins and other items. The shooters also received Grand American attendance pins and SCTP division pins. They also received commemorative White Flyer targets that had Sparta, Ill., or SCTP on them.
Beretta threw a pizza party for the shooters and their families. They also handed out little clay target key chains. Winchester sponsored an exhibition shooter who showed incredible skill with a gun. He shot a watermelon in the air and also shot eggs in the air.
Squads participated in the SCTP division of the shoot on Aug. 8-9. The first high school squad, which consisted of Jody Michael, Chelsea Caldwell, Kenny Lee, Andrew Pierce, and Daniel Pierce, scored 864 out of 1000 targets. The second high school squad included Mallery Heldenbrand, Jessica Frazier, Rachel Michael, Jared Lee, and Johnna Stephen. They scored 872 out of 1000 targets.
The first junior high squad consisted of Kalesa Newman, Jimmy Swope, Cody Frazier, and Tanner Caldwell. They scored 648 out of 1000 targets. The second junior squad included Bryan Lee, Tabitha Piburn, Chandlar Newman, Cody Youtsey, and Ryan Chadwick. They scored 685 out of 1000 targets.
The organizations worked hard to raise money to be able to attend the event. The money raised totaled about $5,000. This money came from donations, a gun raffle, turkey shoots, T-shirt sales, and a car wash. The Gun Club and Venture Crew appreciate everyone who helped them reach their goal.
