The Winston R-6 Board of Education learned the school had earned 100 out of 100 points possible on the Annual Performance Report during their regular meeting held Wednesday, Dec. 17.

In addition, the board heard the school had met the demands of the “adequate yearly progress” (AYP) for communication arts for the district wide, as well as high school and elementary. Initial reports stated the school had not met the goal, but those statistics were later corrected.. The AYP requirement is a cornerstone of the federal law known as No Child Left Behind.

During principal’s reports, Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby reported an enrollment of 116 in Kindergarten through sixth grade; 20 preschoolers; and an attendance rate of 92% for November.

Enrollment was 86 in grades seventh through 12; and the attendance rate was 88%.

The board reviewed and approved the following programs: early childhood special ed; the special education report; and the budget control and legality report.

The science curriculum for preschool through eighth grade was reviewed and approved as was the calendar of events;

The board entered into executive session to do superintendent’s performance evaluation.

The board agreed to allow gym rental for coach Lewis for Saturday, Jan. 10, and Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.

The board went over state projections for school finance for the 2004-2005 school year.

Board members were informed of the MARE conference to be held Feb. 27 and 28, 2004, at Osage Beach in South Missouri.

Present at the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education were board members Gary Caldwell, Melvin Lee, David Neth and Allan Ward; and Weldon Burns and Lisa Bielby.
