Lake Viking Homemakers; Ladies Auxiliary to VFW; Daviess County Business Women
The Lake Viking Homemakers Club met May 9 at the Clubhouse. Hostesses were Donna Smith and June Catt. Patty Boyle was introduced as a guest of Betty Huffman. Birthday was Mary Ellen Barker and anniversaries were Charlene Van Becelaere and Donna Smith. Devotions were by Nedra Eichler and the meeting was presided over by President Marge Revels. Gifts were given to secret pals, birthdays and anniversaries. Our program was our annual plant and white elephant sale with many items being sold. Our June meeting will be a sack lunch picnic at Joyce Becerra’s. Dessert and drinks will be furnished. Bring lawn chairs. The date is June 6, a week early because of Lions Club Kids Kamp the next week. Items were also collected for Green Hills. A card for Katie Walker was signed by all.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post #2172, Gallatin, had the monthly business meeting on May 8 at the Presbyterian Church. Plans were finalized concerning the placing of grave markers for recently deceased members, the collection of Buddy Poppy donations on May 25, Memorial Day services at Hillcrest Cemetery on May 27, and hostessing the monthly birthday party at the Veterans Home in Cameron on May 31. Before adjourning, Lorene McDonald installed the officers for 2002-2003. Officers are president, Pauline Redman; senior vice-president, Mildred Cox; junior vice-president, Peggy Belshe; secretary, Darlene Patton; treasurer, Mary Berry; chaplain, Shirley Wood; conductress, Lois Yost; guard, Frankie Ward; color bearer #1, Cleda Thomas; flag bearer, Mildred Mooney; banner bearer, Mona Brown; patriotic instructor, Darlene Patton; and trustees are: one year, Cleda Thomas; two years, Mildred Cox; and three years, Lois Yost. Color bearer #2 and committee chairmen will be announced at the next meeting on June 13, with La Rue Myers as hostess.
Twenty members of the Daviess County Business Women’s Association met for dinner at Joni’s on May 7. Hostesses were Janie McKinsey and Darlene Patton. The scholarship chairman, Patty Heldenbrand introduced guests, Tracy Clark and her mother, Marilyn Clark. Tracy, a Winston R-2 senior, is the recipient of the association’s 2002 scholarship. After dinner, Tracy entertained the members with some of her vocal selections. The business meeting followed, with a unanimous agreement to contact Clyde Heldenbrand about appearing at the Chautauqua in September. Patty had everyone enjoying one of her games on “current events.” Candy Hughes won the birthday raffle. The meeting was adjourned. We will “vacation” until the September meeting.
