On Sept. 15, Alfred Brian Sprouse, a former Winston teacher, was sentenced to three months jail on a misdemeanor charge of endangering welfare of a child, after a court trial in Daviess County. Sprouse had waived his right to a jury trial and was found guilty on Aug. 7.
Sprouse was also sentenced to two days jail on each of two counts of assault fourth degree. Execution of sentence was suspended on all counts; he was placed on probation for two years and ordered to serve four days of shock detention.
The first charge stems from an incident in a Winston school bus in November 2017, in which he was speeding between Winston and Gallatin. Sprouse had eight convictions for excessive speed and one for no driver’s license. The last two charges were due to Sprouse causing unwanted physical contact with a juvenile at the school in February 2018.
In a separate change of venue case from Daviess County to Livingston County, Sprouse is charged with four counts of child molestation fourth degree, sexual contact with student, and assault third degree. In the Livingston case, Sprouse is accused of assaulting a 15-year-old female about 20 times in a classroom. Sprouse waived formal arraignment on Sept. 8 before Judge Ryan Horsman, and the cause was continued to Nov. 3, 2020, for plea/trial setting.
