Darren Hennen, Gallatin Industrial Development Authority, provided a quarterly report to the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held April 26 at City Hall.

Mr. Hennen’s topics included an update on the PSF/Continental Grain office building at the Industrial Park, the development of a “spec” building at the Industrial Park, prospective companies for the Industrial Park, an update on the formation of the soybean cooperative, the development of the Rural Community Assistance Program, activities and projects underway with the county, and work areas which will be future priorities of GIDA.

In financial matters, City Administrator Jason Helton informed the city council that the 1998 city audit is expected to be completed and received in May.

Mr. Helton reported that the comprehensive policy of utility billing, hook-ups, deposits, disconnect and reconnect procedures, credit standing, past due accounts, etc., will be reviewed and updated in the next two months.

An update was given by Superintendent of Utilities Roger Loxterman on the electrical project. Switchgear within the plant is now in place, city crews will be completing secondary work and setting poles on Van Buren Street. Alltel and Galaxy Cable are both still switching their lines from the old poles to the new poles. The old poles will be removed once the switching is completed.

Mr. Loxterman also updated the aldermen on street light replacement and maintenance that has been underway.

During citizen communications, Glennie Peery and Sally Gray expressed their concerns and their customers’ concerns regarding police activities around Glennie’s Bar & Grill.

Police Chief Todd Watson held discussion on law enforcement activities.

In other business matters, bills and ordinances to amend the zoning regulations of the City of Gallatin received first and second readings.

The resignation of Kelly Lyons, a lineman with the Utility Department, was reported. The hiring process will begin immediately to fill the vacancy.

City crews have constructed a roof over equipment at the municipal pool which should enhance the life span of some of the equipment and reduce some maintenance costs.

A request to reduce a citizen’s utility bill was denied by the aldermen.

Alderman Norma Griffin discussed a drainage problem on East Richardson as reported to her by a resident.

Bills in the amount of $94,873.99 were approved for payment.
