Rewarding Achievements

by Freida Marie Crump

PooseyDigest_WP
Greetings from Poosey.

Mindy will be entering her junior year in high school this week. She’s been our little neighbor girl since the day she was born and we’ve sort of considered her ours. Our sweetheart was raised by good parents and nurtured in a loving a community. In fact, the only thing that completely let her down in her education was her education.

Poosey Digest: There is something you can do

by Freida Marie Crump

Dear Virginia,

…even though your name may be Jayson or Jenny or Brittany. You once asked if there was a Santa Claus and someone gave you an answer. But this Christmas you may have another question: Why do people do bad things?

Something really bad happened in Connecticut last week and if you were like me, you’ve been very sad even though we didn’t know any

Poosey Digest: Pass me the wrench

by Freida Marie Crump

Greetings from Poosey.

If you ask me, the crescent wrench started it all. I’ve heard of the day when Burland Martin walked into the café, slapped the area’s first crescent wrench down on the table and said, “There she is, boys. They’ll never improve on it.” Trouble is, they have.

It’s some sort of perverse rule of nature that the more a thing is improved, the

Poosey Digest: Tipping the balance

Greetings from Poosey.

My Ladies of the Afternoon who meet daily at the coffee shop are all readers of Time magazine. Half the group thinks the magazine is too liberal and the other half consider the first half to be rednecks in support hose, but by reading the same magazine every week we all have some common topics to discuss.

This week’s issue rated President Obama versus Mitt Romney on

Poosey Digest: Turtle troubles

Greetings from Poosey.

Perhaps you’ve experienced the shock…a couple whom you’ve known for years, who seemed the model of a happy marriage, who’ve maybe even raised children, then one day…poof. They split.

Although I’d never known these two personally, their story touched my heart and I had to investigate: Bibi and Poldi, two giant turtles in an Austrian Zoo, lived together for over 115 years when suddenly one day

Poosey Digest: An aversion to work

Greetings from Poosey.

Herb and summer don’t mix. In fact, I’ve yet to find a season that completely agrees with the old poop’s temperament. As soon as the grass starts to grow and the hedges need trimming, my husband has a mysterious aura come over him and he’s attacked by a bagful of ailments that would send the Mayo brothers screaming out of Minnesota and into flower arranging.

Poosey Digest: That bastion of peace

Greetings from Poosey.

For a mere $3000 you can make your bathtub vibrate. That’s according to Jennifer Hartman, a Home Depot bath merchant quoted in USA Today. The VibraAcoustic Bath will shake, rattle and roll your soap around the tub with underwater speakers programmed to play your favorite tunes. Ms. Hartman had no comment on why anyone would care to have her bottom blasted by submerged boom box.

Poosey Digest: How did grandma do it?

Greetings from Poosey.

I knew she was hard working, and I realized that the old gal was kind, resourceful, patient and a great cook, but now I realize that Grandma was a by-golly genius.

Last week found me sitting at a committee meeting beside a lady who had her IPhone in her lap for the entire 90 minutes. And of course she didn’t just hold it, she consulted it every

Poosey Digest: They all count

Greetings from Poosey.

Let’s be honest: some of us count and some of us don’t.

When the Illinois legislature voted down an anti-bullying bill because a handful of conservative lawmakers don’t want the schools to be forced to give instruction on understanding kids who are different, that’s a shame …and a shame that those kids don’t count.  When a presidential candidate is accused of holding a student to the ground
