Washing Your Nets

by Pastor Steve Ellison

Maybe you recall seeing these words in your Bible: Sea of Chinnereth, Sea of Chinneroth, Sea of Gennesaret, Sea of Tiberias, or The Lake. These all refer to one and the same place, the Sea of Galilee, which plays a significant role in the Bible, particularly the New Testament.

Many of Jesus’ miracles and teaching took place on or around this bountiful body of water. In

Dealing with Temptation

by Pastor Steve Ellison

Matthew 4 and Luke 4 both record a very interesting confrontation between Jesus (our Advocate) and Satan (our Adversary). These passages tell us that very early in Jesus’ earthly ministry, in fact immediately following His baptism, He faced a series of temptations from Satan himself. However, Mark 1:12 explicitly states that Jesus was sent by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness for that very purpose.

Taking a Trip with Jesus

by Pastor Steve Ellison

Luke 2:41-51 is a marvelous passage. For starters, in it we find the first recorded words of Jesus. “Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast; 43 and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed

Constructing Your Own Platform

by Pastor Steve Ellison

As Paul comes to the close of his letter to Titus, he turns his attention to an overarching principle that if heeded will serve Titus and you and me well. Paul points out the need to be excellent in all that we do.

Titus 3:12-14 states, “When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, make every effort to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have

Heretics

by Pastor Steve Ellison

I Timothy 1:3-7: “As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart

Motivation Enough

by Pastor Steve Ellison

One of the greatest problems in today’s church in America is a lack of motivation. In fact, this may be the largest unresolved issue in modern Christianity.

We have unlimited supplies of easily affordable copies of the Bible in almost every language. We have almost innumerable English translations. We have comfortable meeting places and virtually no persecution. And yet the great unanswered question of our day

Consider Yourself Reminded

by Pastor Steve Ellison

Much of Paul’s letter to Titus is about being and doing good. It is also about teaching others to do good and to be good as well. In verse one of chapter three, Paul told Titus to “remind them.” It is a fact that much of what teachers in every field do when they teach is to “remind.” Humans are forgetful people. A public school teacher

The Kinsman Redeemer

by Pastor Steve Ellison

Titus 2:13-14 tells us that Jesus redeems His children, “…our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” (NASU) The fact that we have a Kinsman Redeemer is one of the great theological truths of scripture.

Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and

Peculiar People

by Pastor Steve Ellison

If you are a Christian, Titus 2:13-14 should be a boost to your self esteem, “…our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.”(NASU)

The fact that Jesus Christ, our great God and Savior died partly so that you could be
