On the Street

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — It was a great four days of celebrating our nation’s independence. We had a baseball game with the visiting U.S. Military All-Stars hosted by our Mudcats, a downtown concert of gospel and bluegrass music at Silver Moon Plaza, the return of the Freedom Festival and perhaps what has to be the best and biggest fireworks display in years. Oh, and Chillicothe, the Home of Sliced Bread, welcomed

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — Here we go. This is one of those extended holidays (if you can work it out with your boss). For the first time in a long, long time, Independence Day offers plenty to do here in Chillicothe. The annual Chillicothe Freedom Festival in Simpson Park returns after a one-year absence because of last year’s drought conditions.

July 4th events here include a downtown concert Friday night at

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — If you were out and about last Saturday night you saw glow lights, runners, walkers and perhaps the biggest 5K run/walk event ever held in Chillicothe. It was the first Light the Night 5k Slow Run/Walk and Block Party, and it will go into the books as a great success.

Daniel Savage, executive director of the North Missouri Center for Youth & Families, said he was overwhelmed

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — Chillicothe and Livingston County got hammered last Saturday afternoon by heavy winds and torrential rain that hit the area around 5 p.m. Winds were checked by Livingston County Emergency Management at 75 miles an hour. Trained weather service reporters recorded winds of 55 to 65 miles an hour.

Heavy rain flooded streets and was said to be two to even three feet above the curb in several

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — There was music in the air from Simpson Park at the north to downtown and Sliver Moon Plaza as the Relay for Life and Tunes Under the Moon kicked off its season last Friday evening. Friday was also the opening day of Chilli Bay, the city’s new $4.2 million water park located in Simpson Park.

All in all, it was a good weekend despite the downpour late

On the Street

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — The good news is that MFA is not closing its Break Time Convenience store and gas station on south Washington.

Last week I announced that the store was closing after vendors and employees had been told the business would be closing on May 31. MFA Official Amanda Gonn, manager of support services in Columbia, reported last Wednesday morning that the ownership changed its mind the next day

On the Street

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — The Memorial Day holiday weekend wasn’t exactly what one might have dialed up. Cool, windy and wet most of the weekend and that included a hard rain and lots of wind Sunday night and Monday morning.

Things were very quiet in our town. Last Friday evening the Chillicothe Summer Playground Association staged its annual opening ceremonies at the Danner Sports Complex with a large crowd on hand.

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — Another weekend, another storm and another delay in the proposed opening of the new water park ChilliBay in Simpson Park.

The first long holiday weekend of the year comes our way this weekend as we pause to celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 27. For the first time in as long as anyone can recall, the swimming pool (now the new water park) will not be open

On the Street

OnTheStreet_WPCHILLICOTHE, MO — As the years pass I am sure we will have a special place in our memory bank for the weather we’ve experienced the past year. The severe drought a year ago and water-lowered levels in ponds, lakes and reservoirs from five to seven feet below normal stage. Then came flooding and flash flooding and more snow in April.

Then there’s the nearly five-inch snow that was dumped
