MDC: turkey production about average, fall hunting prospects vary regionally

The Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) annual wild-turkey brood-survey shows mixed results for fall turkey hunting prospects. According to MDC Turkey Biologist Jason Isabelle, statewide turkey production in 2015 was lower than last year, but similar to the five-year average.

Each summer, citizen volunteers and MDC staff record the number of wild turkey hens and recently hatched turkeys, called poults, they see. These observations are then tallied for the annual

Road Work for Daviess Co

The following is a listing of general highway maintenance and construction work in the Northwest Missouri region for the week of Sept. 28 – Oct. 4 from the Missouri Department of Transportation. After narrow win, Missouri heads into SEC play

Saturday was a beautiful day for a football game in Columbia, with blue skies and fairly mild temperatures compared to the steamy conditions for the season opener Labor Day weekend. But while the weather was beautiful, the actual game was decidedly not beautiful.

Missouri (3-0), a heavy favorite, held on for a bizarre 9-6 win over Connecticut (2-1).

Hunter education skills session training scheduled in Gallatin

The Missouri Department of Conservation recently revised the Hunter Education course for student convenience and to emphasize hands-on training.  The course is now a two-step process.

The first step is to complete the knowledge-based training through one of three options.

Option 1: Take the online/mobile study portion and complete the review quizzes. The student must show the Missouri Skills Session Qualifier Certificate to enter the Skills Session.

MO Agencies Invite Hunters to Share the Harvest

MDC and CFM encourage deer hunters to Share the Harvest
Support venison-donation program started by bowhunters to feed fellow Missourians.

Many Missouri families can’t afford to put high-quality, low-fat red meat on the dinner table. Deer hunters can help by sharing their harvests through Missouri’s Share the Harvest program. The venison-donation program connects deer hunters with hungry Missourians through participating meat processors and local hunger-relief agencies around the state.

Manhunt Ends in Daviess County

Jeffrey Griffith of St. Joseph was taken into custody in Daviess County, shortly after 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, ending a day-long manhunt involving multiple regional law enforcement agencies.

A Cameron Police Department officer first spotted Griffith at a Cameron truck stop in a pickup that was reportedly stolen out of Buchanan County on Saturday. Griffith fled from the officers as they attempted to question him, setting off the pursuit.

Women in Ag: Home Grown Event Set for Sept. 24

The DeKalb County Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and MU Extension are hosting the first annual Women in Ag “Home Grown” Event at the June Conley Building in Maysville on September 24.
