Milburn Dwayne Hughes 1926 – 2016

obit Milburn HughesMilburn Hughes, 90, of Rockton, Ill., died August 15, 2016 at home. Born July 18, 1926 in Wichita, Kan., the son of Harry Hughes and Edna Hughes (nee Irion), and the brother of Joanne and Gwen.

He attended Wichita East High School. Milburn served in the U.S. Army, in the 54th Medical Battalion during and following World War II, and was stationed for some time in Japan.

Emery Gould 1917-2016

Gerhard Emery Gould left this earthly life on August 14, 2016 at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, where he had been a patient for a short time. His age was 99 years, 6 months and 3 days. He was a resident of the Baptist Home in Chillicothe.

Emery was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Santa Rosa, Mo. in Dekalb County. His parents were Glen Eli and Emma Henrietta (Harms) Gould.

Margaret Cummings 1922-2016

Funeral services for Margaret Cummings were held Aug. 16, at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs; burial was in Old Scotland Cemetery, Daviess County. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Rainbow Center for handicapped children in Blue Springs, or to Southside Church of Christ in Blue Springs.

Alice Carter 1922-2016

Funeral services for Alice Carter will be held Aug. 17 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, in St. Joseph. Interment is at McFall Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Aseracare Hospice.

Alice Pearl Carter, 93, St. Joseph, died Aug. 13, 2016, at a local care facility.

Alice was born on Sept. 5, 1922, to the late Albert and May (Johnson) Groetecke in Pattonsburg, where she was raised and attended school.

Dixie Edwards 1941-2016

A memorial service for Dixie Edwards is planned for 1 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, Mich., located at the corner of State and Huron streets. Inurnment will be in the First United Methodist Church Memorial Garden at the same location. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Troop 4, Methodist Youth Program at FUMC or the FUMC Kenya

Michale Riley d. Aug. 20, 2016

Memorial service for Michale Riley will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Kidder United Methodist Church. Visitation is one hour prior to service at church. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Cameron.

Donald L. Cox

Donald Cox, 91, died Aug. 6, 2016.

Funeral services for Donald Cox will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at Roberson Funeral Home, Jamesport. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery, Jamesport. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, where friends may call after 9 a.m.

Paul Whitley 1930-2016

Paul “Scrappy” Whitley, 85, Coffey, died Aug. 9, 2016, at his home. No services are planned. Cremation was completed by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin.

Paul was born Oct. 14, 1930, the son of William and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Whitley in Patterson, N.J.  He grew up and graduated from High School in Pittsburg, Pa., and later entered the United States Marine Corps in 1954, serving his country for two years.

Sherman Richard Phelps 1956-2016

obit phelpsSherman Richard Phelps, 60, passed away August 8, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He was born Feb. 15, 1956 in Bloomington, Ill. to John L Phelps and Lois L. Scurlock.

Richard graduated in 1975 from Gallatin High School. He then started a career at Longwood Furnace and was a volunteer fire fighter for KAW Fire District. Richard went on to pursue a career
