Smoke in the Park Promises Something for Everyone

Make plans to attend this year’s Smoke in the Park to be held June 20-21 in Gallatin. Gates will open at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, for teams to begin setting up their spots. Cooks’ meeting will be at 7:30 Friday night.

The four categories will be chicken, pork ribs, pork and beef brisket. Main judging starts at noon Saturday.

Daviess County Sheriff Activity Report

A Daviess County deputy received minor injuries while pursuing a vehicle on Yard and 330th Street eastbound around 1 a.m. on June 7. Chief Deputy Todd Watson ran off the road and was injured during the pursuit. The car was damaged but drivable. Deputy Watson was cleared to return to work on Tuesday. Damage estimates on the car are pending.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commissioners to discuss soft match paperwork and bridge repairs, in addition to repairs on roads in Sheridan Township. The road and bridge crew are working on shelving for the courthouse offices due to the rain.

Patrol Gives Results of 2014 Annual School Bus Inspections

Winston achieves Total Fleet Excellence

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the results of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Division’s 2014 annual school bus inspection program. A total of 30 Daviess County school buses were inspected between the dates of Feb. 3 and May 20.

All six buses from the Winston School District were approved upon initial inspection.

Four Arrested on Multiple Charges

Livingston County to Continue with Regional Jail

After closing more than a year ago, Livingston County officials do not plan to reopen their jail facility or pursue the idea of building a new jail, according to a recent report.

28th Annual Torch Run for Special Olympics


 

The Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO), founded by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association (MPCA) 28 years ago, began on May 15 and continued through May 30. The Gallatin route took place May 28 at the courthouse, around the square, and down Main Street. New voter registration cards mailed this week by county clerk

Daviess County Clerk Vicki Corwin has announced that a voter canvass is underway. State and federal law requires that voter registration records be canvassed every two years. All voters in Daviess County will receive a new voter registration card.
