Aliens Spotted at County Library

The internationally-celebrated 501st Legion and their friends appeared as special guests at the Summer Reading Program’s Star Wars Party at the Daviess County Library on Saturday, June 21.

Aliens, clones, and officers turned out in full gear to meet, greet, and entertain the children of Gallatin and surrounding areas. Many young fans turned out in costume.

Winston to Hold Jesse James Days Festival

The Winston Historical Society will present the 27th Annual Jesse James Days Festival Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12, in Winston. The depot will be open Saturday at noon.

Friday’s agenda includes an ice cream social, a corn hole tournament, and a gospel sing with music from Overflow.

Breakfast will start off Saturday’s activities, followed by a vendor fair, horse shoe tossing, baby show, and many other events.

Summer Concert by Grand River Valley

A musical program called “Down by the Riverside,” with a variety of collections to include “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” will be presented by members of the Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra for their summer concert, June 28 at Trenton’s First Baptist Church. This concert, which begins at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public. The multi-county group formed in 2009 and is funded through donations.

Smoke in the Park Promises Something for Everyone

Make plans to attend this year’s Smoke in the Park to be held June 20-21 in Gallatin. Gates will open at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, for teams to begin setting up their spots. Cooks’ meeting will be at 7:30 Friday night.

Annual Sliced Bread Jam Bluegrass Festival

Smoke in the Park Heats Up

The 2014 Smoke in the Park will be held June 20-21 at Dockery Park in Gallatin.

Main judging is at 12 noon Saturday. People’s choice judging will follow the main judging. There are four categories for barbecue: chicken, pork ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket.

This is a non-sanctioned event and KCBS rules and regulations will apply.
