Circuit Judge R. Brent Elliott’s “From the Bench” is a series of articles designed to provide the public with a better understanding of the judicial system. The 43rd Judicial Circuit consists of five counties; Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, and Livingston.

How much do counties pay to house inmates?

If a defendant in a criminal case is convicted of an offense, any cost of housing (board bill) is normally assessed or taxed to the defendant. The charges for board bills vary throughout the circuit as they are established by each county taking into consideration their respective expenses associated with housing detainees.

James Lewis met with the commission reporting budgeting for 2016. Corrugated metal pipe is needed for placement when weather permits on Quick Avenue, Drake Avenue, 232nd Street, Key Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. Crews are actively making repairs to bridges that have been noted by MoDOT.
