Caldwell County held 2017 budget hearing

The Caldwell County Commission, along with other elected officials and various interested citizens, met Jan. 27 to review and discuss the projected county revenue and expenditures for the upcoming year.

Road and bridge crews are placing rip-rap on Cedar Avenue this week.

Gilman City man receives 14 years for assault first degree

Jared Zerbe, Gilman City, was sentenced to 14 years in the Department of Corrections on an assault first degree charge that was amended from a B felony down to a C felony, and to seven years for domestic assault, C felony, sentences to run concurrently. Zerbe was found to be a prior and persistent offender of felonies. The charges were

County’s revenue up slightly but not keeping pace with expenses

2016 revenues and expenses were in the deficit by $78,477

County finances come into focus this week with the publication of Daviess County’s annual financial statement printed elsewhere in this edition.

On Jan. 19 County Clerk Vicki Corwin presented a budget message as a budget officer as recorded as part of the 2017 Daviess County budget. Her message offers a summary of views on various aspects of county government operations.

James Lewis, road and bridge supervisor, discussed repairs around the county. Crews are cleaning out corrugated metal pipe on 302nd Street in Harrison Township.

Samuel Miller discussed a drainage issue on Highway 190 and Nickel Avenue. Tonya Lohman from MoDOT will be reviewing and will respond back to Mr. Miller.
