Absentee voting times announced for election

Absentee voting for the November 8 General Election begin on September 27th and continues through November 7th at the Daviess County Clerk’s office in Gallatin. The County Clerk’s office will also be open on Saturday November 5th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The last day to request a ballot by mail is November 2nd. Circuit Court

Charles A. Barlow of Gallatin was convicted of DWI, chronic offender, class B felony, in a jury trial conducted in Daviess County Circuit Court on Sept. 19. The jury began deliberation at 3:37 p.m. and returned with a finding of guilty at 3:58 p.m.

Barlow was arrested the evening of Dec. 12, 2015, when Deputy Tyler Miller was present and observed Barlow at the Corner Café in Gallatin.

County Commission

Ross Williams, brush mower operator, discussed brush issues around the county. He will be brush cutting 195th Street in Salem Township.

The road and bridge crew will be installing a 5′ tube on 195th Street and will be repairing storm damage on Waltz Avenue in Harrison Township, also in Colfax and Jefferson Township and other areas as calls come in from townships and residents.

Court approves settlement for undisclosed amount in wrongful death suit against jail

On Aug. 24, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri approved a settlement in a wrongful death suit against the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail.

The suit was filed by Janet Harris in June 2014. She claimed that her husband, Timothy Harris, 36, died a wrongful death on June 2, 2014 while he was an inmate at the jail due to the failure of the jail to provide medical

Pattonsburg will install new windows

Bids on eight windows to be replaced in the city hall/municipal building were opened during the meeting of the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen held on August 15. Two bids were received. One was from Lowe’s in the amount of $4,440.85 and one was from Timber Wolf Construction in the amount of $2,577.28. The board accepted the Timber Wolf Construction bid.

Treasurer’s Office

The Daviess County Tax Sale was conducted Aug. 22 at the south door of the courthouse, with 208 properties offered for sale for delinquent taxes and costs. Of the 208 properties offered, 191 of them were Lake Viking properties. At the sale, 36 properties were sold for delinquent taxes, with 33 of those properties being Lake Viking lots. The other three properties sold were lots in Lock Springs.
