German Exchange Student Returns for Visit

Bettina Wissmann from Pforzheim, Germany, an exchange student during the 1998-99 school year returned to Gallatin to visit friends this past week. Bettina stayed with the Bradley and Batson families during her GHS year. Bettina works now in human resources in a savings bank in Pforzheim called “Sparkasse.” Bettina lives in her own apartment. She enjoys sports and traveling. She returned one time before in 2007 as a guest at

GHS 35th Class Reunion Centers on Homecoming

The 35th Class Reunion for Gallatin High School graduates from 1978, 1979 and 1980 centered on the GHS homecoming parade and football game. Classmates also got a tour of Covel D. Searcy Elementary School by Barbara Wilson and Toni Weaver Cox, as well as a tour of the Daviess County Courthouse by Carl Carder. A reunion dinner was held at Cycles. Classmate Mark Gay’s band, Dammit Jim, entertained at Southside.

GHS Class of ’74 Holds Reunion

The Gallatin Class of ‘74 held their 40th Class Reunion Sept. 20, at Cycles. Jerry Bob Albrecht traveled the furthest from California. James Wilson organized the event and paid special tribute to our classmates who have passed, Bill VerHagen, Danny McBroom, Jim Walker, Ruby (Hardin) Hostetler, Liz Duffey, Bill Garrens, Jerrold Cole, and Mildred (Gaede) Bowers.

McDonald Will Lead Chautauqua Parade as Grand Marshal

Lorene McDonald has been nominated by Mary Hacking and the Chautauqua Committee as the Grand Marshal for the Chautauqua parade, which will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Lorene said she was surprised to be nominated. “I don’t think I’ve done as much for the community as others,” she said. “And I don’t think I deserve it.”

Upward Bound Program Accepting Applications

The Upward Bound (U.B.) program is now accepting applications from interested students in the Trenton R-9, Chillicothe R-2, Gallatin R-5, Penney R-2, Tri-County R-7 and Grundy R-5 school districts. U.B. assists high school students in preparation for successful college entrance through academic year advising, tutoring, and a culturally rewarding summer component. It is hosted locally by North Central Missouri College in Trenton.
