BETHANY, MO — New home starts slowed to a trickle within Bethany city limits during 2012 according to building inspection records. Only one new housing permit was issued last year, but commercial construction shows more activity. Permits for $1.7 million in commercial projects were issued during the past 12 months. Major projects included an expansion of the McDonald’s restaurant, renovation for the Bethany clinic of Cameron Regional Medical Center, construction of a new Subway restaurant adjoining Kwik Zone, and renovation of Walmart. The construction of a new Casey’s truck stop was completed last fall but the building permit for that project was issued during the previous year. During 2012 the City of Bethany issued 117 building permits, collecting a total of $2,908 in permit fees. Total construction was $2.2 million involving 28 commercial projects and 89 residential projects.
