Steve Reid discussed last week’s DNR inspection of the water plant with the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held Monday, April 28.

He advised that the water plant is in need of some major upgrades to remain DNR compliant, and that the board needs to consider starting the process of constructing a new plant.
Doug Schulte with Snyder & Associates recommended that a Preliminary Engineering Report be done to begin the process of building a new water plant.
Lance Rains with Green Hills discussed several loan, bond, and grant money possibilities for the construction of a new water treatment plant.
Tom Stechmann with Utility Service discussed the water tower inspection report and the importance of placing the new tower on a maintenance program. He also discussed the removal of the old water tower.
Teddy Holcomb discussed a bid for laying asphalt around the square. He also went and looked at a dump truck that he would like the board to consider purchasing.
The board agreed to purchase a 1995 International Dump Truck in the amount of $15,000.
Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from Aapril 14-28. Reports Taken / Tickets Given:

Police Chief Richards stated that all the D.A.R.E. programs have concluded for this year. Also he discussed the purchasing of additional cameras for the police vehicles.
Bills in the amount of $43,485.72 were approved for payment.
City Administrator Zac Johnson stated that LawnWorks LLC has informed the city that they will not be able to do the cemetery mowing. He will try to contact another bidder.
Mr. Johnson informed the board that the city was not selected for the 2008 demolition grant. The city will continue to work with Green Hills to apply again in 2009.
After discussion, the board carried a motion to revoke LaDulcenia’s business license.
Mr. Johnson told the board that Veolia Trash Service will be instituting a fuel surcharge. Starting with the May utility bills the monthly adjusted fuel surcharge will be added to the current contract rate of $10.50.
During comments by aldermen, John Whitfield had a complaint on a fence that was not replaced after the sewer project was completed.
The board entered into closed session pursuant to discussing legal actions and litigation and hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
