Requisites for becoming a kinship provider

Generally speaking, kinship providers are persons who have a close relationship with the child or child’s family. They are frequently godparents, neighbors, teachers, family friends, or church members. Persons related to the child by blood or affinity beyond the third degree are also considered kinship providers.

When children are removed from a home due to abuse or neglect, relative or kinship care is preferred
