Foundation Explores “Transfer of Wealth” Benefits for NW Missouri

Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri, Inc. will host their third annual event featuring Nebraska Community Foundation CEO, Jeff Yost, as keynote speaker on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Holiday Inn Ballroom, 102 S. 3rd in downtown St. Joseph. Doors open at 8:15 a.m. with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and the program at 9 a.m.

The Community Foundation is four years old and its coverage area reaches 18 counties in Northwest

Lambert Receives Distinguished Service Award

Tom Lambert, Pattonsburg, received the Distinguished Service Award at the 2013 Soil & Water Conservation Training Conference held Dec. 17 at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach. The award is presented each year to an individual who has shown dedicated service to the soil and water conservation program. Mr. Lambert has served over 25 years on the Daviess County Soil & Water Conservation District Board and other Missouri Association Soil & Water

Eggleston Announces Run for Representative

Eggleston runs for office.

A Maysville businessman has announced his candidacy to represent District 2 of the Missouri House of Representatives, which includes Daviess County.

J. Eggleston visited public schools throughout Daviess County during December, visiting with school superintendents about issues facing rural educators. Discussion included various topics such as budget funding to the Common Core initiative to health insurance law.

Redbirds Win First HDC Basketball Title in 30 Years

Winston’s boys had plenty to celebrate following a 55-38 victory over East Harrison in Saturday night’s championship game of the HDC Tournament.

The win represented the Redbirds’ first HDC championship since the 1982-83 season. In handing East Harrison its first loss of the season (9-1), Winston extended its winning streak to eight games dating back to the first week of December.

Birds Celebrate 65th Wedding Anniversary

 

 

 

 

J.R. and Betty Bird will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. The were married on Jan. 16, 1949. They have five children, Sharon Bird Lockridge (Kenneth); Patricia Bird Ehly (Mike); Joe Bird (Louise); Bob Bird (Sue); and Clint Bird (Marcia). They have 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Florence Shelton 1936-2014

Funeral services for Florence Shelton were held Saturday at Maysville Restoration Church of Jesus Christ, south of Maysville on Highway 33. Arrangements were by Bram-Turner Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial was at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Maysville.

Florence Marie (McKee) Shelton, 77, Maysville, died Jan. 8, 2014, at Heart of the Ozarks Care Center in Ava.

She was born March 19, 1936, north of Mirabile, and was a graduate of Maysville High
