Ever heard of Veterans Day as Armistice Day? “Armistice” refers to a cessation of war, a temporary peace, a truce between enemies. A “veteran” is an old soldier, a seasoned fighter from some former war. On June 4, 1929, at the end of World War I, the U.S. Congress passed the following legislation:
