Return of Black Bears Indicates Healthy Missouri Forests

By the 1920s, black bears in Missouri had been wiped out by both habitat loss and unregulated hunting. But now, decades later, because of an Arkansas-based┬áreintroduction program, hundreds of bears once again inhabit the southern part of our state. While the population is considered small, it indicates a healthy return to biological balance. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation’s website (http://mdc.mo.gov/ [1]) to learn more about black bears.
