Lawsuit Filed Against USDA to Stop Horse Slaughter

Federal regulators gave an Iowa-based company the go-ahead to slaughter horses yesterday – and approval for a slaughter facility located outside Gallatin appears likely to be next.

The former Rains Natural Meats facility is already the target of a federal lawsuit filed Monday by The Humane Society of the United States, Front Range Equine Rescue of Larkspur, CO, three other groups and five individuals. Television news crews from Kansas City

The lawsuit is right. There are 115 legal drugs that as horse owners we can give our horses that are labeled, “not for use in horses intended for food.”

In Europe, horses are given passports by the time they are six months old and dangerous drugs are recorded. We do not have that kind of system here. Rains is planning on circumventing the European rules. Here, see for yourself:
