Daviess County Clerk Linda Steward has submitted a letter of resignation to Jeremiah Nixon, Governor of the State of Missouri. Mrs. Steward’s resignation is effective on June 30. She began working at the courthouse in 1979 as deputy county clerk and was elected to the office in 1986.
The Daviess County Commission was notified of Mrs. Steward’s resignation at their June 10 meeting. The commission appointed Sally Black as the interim county clerk.
The replacement process will involve the Daviess County Democratic and Republican Committees each submitting a candidate’s name to Governor Jay Nixon for his consideration. The governor will make the appointment after the county committees have submitted their candidates.
