Springtime Care of Forsythia

by Tim Baker, Northwest Region Horticulture Specialist

One of the most colorful springtime flowering shrubs is forsythia. Profusely covered with bright yellow flowers in early spring, these woody plants are popular and easy to grow. They come in many forms, including dwarf and standard varieties. But like any plant, proper care will produce better results when they bloom.

I took an easy path, following my son Scott on his Honda Shadow north to Martinsville (just because we’ve never been there) and back down to Albany where we stopped for a pit stop at a convenience store. That’s where I learned that my motorcycle’s battery was dead.

The store clerk allowed us to borrow
