Some kids already know things that you can do to be safe, like how to cross the street, not to talk to or go with strangers and things like that. But we adults know how exciting Halloween can be and that can make you forget to be careful.

Capitol Report: Deficits and debt

by Congressman Sam Graves

Our 31st President Herbert Hoover once said, “Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.” I believe that we have a responsibility to leave this country better off for the next generation. Part of that duty should include addressing this debt crisis head on, not leaving it for the next generation to worry about later.

With our national debt now totaling more than

Letter to the Editor: Prayer and politics

Dear Editor,

Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth, in whom we live and move and have our being, rules in the kingdoms of men (Daniel 4:17). He does indeed have the power to plant and build a nation, and if a nation does not obey His will he has the power to pluck it up and destroy it (Jeremiah 18:6-10, 12:17).

Men pray and sing “God Bless America,” and

Letter to the Editor: About Becerra

Dear Editor,

In last week’s paper there were three letters praising Sheriff Ben Becerra. One from his wife and another from a family friend. We agree that it is only fair to show respect to those we care for.

Although, Sheriff Becerra is not always respectful of those he has sworn to serve. Over a year ago we gave Sheriff Ben Becerra, his deputies and Prosecuting Attorney Annie Gibson TWO

The Shepherd Calls: Pray for the new President

Will you bad mouth and fight him for the next four years?

Letter to the Editor: Sheriff Becerra

Dear Editor,

Several letters have appeared in the last couple of newspapers regarding the Sheriff election. Just as Mrs. Becerra related in her recent letter, I also feel I have often remained silent and did not voice my opinion while others around our community were outspoken. As the spouse of our current Chief of Police in Gallatin, I feel that I may have some understanding of both sides. Where as
