MU Athletic Director visits local Extension office

University of Missouri Athletic Director Mike Alden and members of his staff stopped in Gallatin today (Oct. 31) during a tour of Northwest Missouri communities. Alden’s stop in Gallatin was hosted by the Daviess County MU Extension office.

Melvin Offutt 1984-2012

A private family service will be held for Melvin Offutt. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Mr. Offutt has been cremated under the direction of Poland-Thompson Funeral Home. Grand River Choir and Orchestra to perform Dec. 8

The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will perform “Christmas Before Claus,” a concert of traditional carols, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the First Baptist Church in Trenton.

Singers and instrumentalists from throughout the Grand River Valley are invited to participate in this concert. The choir will rehearse from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 27 and Dec. 4 at the First Baptist Church in Trenton.

Derrick Lin named Wendy’s Heisman finalist

Gallatin R-5 senior Derrick Lin has been named one of 20 Missouri finalists for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, one of the highest awards given to high school seniors.

Lin, the son of Rick and Lesli Lin, has been recognized as an outstanding high school senior who excels in athletics, academics and community leadership.

Gallatin Rotary sponsors fifth Alumni Basketball Tournament

The Gallatin Rotary Club will be sponsoring the fifth annual Gallatin Alumni Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Approximately 36 men, from the Class of 1988 to the Class of 2010, have signed up to play at this year’s tournament. The four teams will participate in a round robin with games beginning at 9 a.m.
