Big band sound at Chillicothe arts center

The big band sound of music greats like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Count Basie, the Dorsey Brothers and others will be featured in a 3 p.m. concert Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe, when the University of Central Missouri Faculty-Alumni Big Band comes to Chillicothe to perform. Veterans host breakfast, hold membership drive

Gallatin Frank Frazier Post #2172 will host a free breakfast for Daviess County veterans at the Corner Cafe in Gallatin from 6-8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12.

The District One Veterans Service officer will be available to file claims for veterans. Need to bring a copy of DD214 or honorable discharge paper.

Need not be a member of any veterans organization to attend or apply for VA assistance. Contact Ray

Gallatin, Pattonsburg perform well at Missouri Days

The Missouri Day Marching Festival was held Saturday, Oct. 20, in Trenton, with the following rankings for North Daviess schools that participated:

Class 2 Gallatin received first place in parade; first place in indoor drum line; first in indoor auxiliary. Class 1 Pattonsburg received third place in parade; third place in indoor drum line; third in indoor auxiliary.

Mary Maples 1919-2012

Mary Ellen (Terry) Maples, 93, of Chillicothe, Mo., passed away Saturday Oct. 27, 2012 at the Livingston Manor in Chillicothe.

Mary was born Sept. 8, 1919 and was the daughter of Roy C. and Alma I. (Oxford) Terry.

She grew up in the Old Scotland and Jamesport, Mo., areas. She graduated from Jamesport High School in 1939.

She became a member of the Old Scotland Church at an early age

Applying for help just got easier

Residents of Daviess County can now stay a little closer to home when seeking help from Green Hills Community Action Agency. The agency has recently made arrangements with local sites to set up boxes in Gallatin and Pattonsburg. The boxes contain information and applications for various programs and services offered by the CAA.
