Poosey Conservation Area annual fall driving tour set

The Missouri Department of Conservation will hold the annual fall driving tour through the Poosey Conservation Area on Sunday, Oct. 21. Premium Standard Farms recently donated over 1,500 cases of bottled water to 16 area high schools, including Tri County of Jamesport, Jameson and Winston. Manufacturing thriving in North Missouri

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MO — While a common refrain nationally is that the U.S. manufacturing base has eroded, a significant piece of the economy of North Missouri continues to thrive in manufacturing — and people around the globe depend on these businesses operating here. Heritage Day Festival a huge success

JAMESPORT, MO — The annual Heritage Day Festival in Jamesport was a huge success for 2012. Space in the A.V. Spillman Event Center was sold out with vendors coming from as far away as South Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Vendor spaces spilled out beyond the 40 indoor spaces with as many as 10 booths setting up outdoors to serve a large crowd. Some vendors completely sold out their inventory

Vern Smith

Funeral services for Vern Smith were held Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron, with Masonic service following. Burial was at Cameron Memory Gardens, with military honors following. Memorial donations may be made to Cameron United Methodist Church, Vincil Lodge Scholarship Fund and/or the Cameron Veteran’s Memorial.

Vern Chauncy Smith, 94, Cameron, died on September 20, 2012.

Corn crop averages 40 bushel to the acre

Rainfall from Hurricane Isaac’s fallout and subsequent storms came too late to help Daviess County’s withered corn crop now being harvested.

The corn per acre yield in the area is all over the board, according to Nalles Feed and Grain, and is the lowest its been in years. The yield is as little as nine bushel an acre to 100 bushel.

Local drop offs scheduled for drug takeback

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.

Courthouse News

Your Right to Know: The following is information released from the Daviess County Courthouse on Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

The courthouse will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, for Columbus Day. Due to the holiday, the Daviess County Commission will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 General Election is Wednesday, Oct. 10. Absentee ballots are now available.
