Grand River College in its heyday

Gallatin was once a leader in education when Grand River College was among the first institutions to offer higher education opportunities to women in Missouri. This photo, shared by Sylvia Eads, verifies a great response to the “novel” idea. The 3-story brick building once stood in south Gallatin before it was consumed by fire in 1918.

The institution was originally chartered in 1851 as a private school located at Edinbergh
