Ernest Baber 1920-2012

KIDDER, Mo. — Ernest "Willard" Baber, 91, Kidder, passed away on March 19, 2012.

Willard was born on April 4, 1920, in Converse, Mo., to James Albert and Elsie Mae (Miller) Baber.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the American Legion Post No. 194, Holt, Mo.

Survivors include four daughters: Beverly Long, Cameron; Shirley (David) Rupe, Lathrop, Mo.; Janet (David) Gilliland, Kidder, Mo.;

Daviess County Courthouse News (3-28-2012)

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they are working in the Jamesport area this week. They discussed the bridge evaluation (BEAP) reports for three bridges and the repairs that can be made by county maintenance employees. Only one, on Cedar Avenue, can be reconstructed by the county.

North Daviess accepts resignations, retains full and part-time teachers

The resignation of Julie Schluter and Hilary Marshall were accepted by the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education during their meeting held March 19.

The following full-time teachers were retained for the 2012-1013 school year: Rebecah Roberts, Natisha Berry, Nichole Robertson, Annette Lowrey, Meredith Doty, Mary Cypert, Tammy Dustman, Jeremy Dodds, Phillip Morrison, Daniel Street, Daniel Weese and Suzanne Slaughter.

2012 Track: Lin, Mattis victories highlight opening varsity efforts

Gallatin varsity track athletes waited an extra four days to open their 2012 spring track season, but did so Monday at Trenton’s Early Bird Relays despite a shorthanded girls’ effort due to FBLA competition.

GJH girls take team title at Worth County JH Relays

Gallatin’s junior high girls won five events and captured the team title at Monday’s Early Bird Relays held at Worth County High School. A victory in the 4×400-meter relay helped Gallatin’s boys take a sixth place finish among 12 schools competing.

2012 Golf: Simmons shares runnerup honor in GHS opener

Despite soggy conditions, Gallatin R-5 men’s golfers hit the links in Maysville for their season opener last Thursday afternoon.

Four golfers were in action Thursday, Grant Simmons, Chris Cameron, Tyler Carder and Derrik Baldwin. Two more, Peter Steele and Zane Snow, began competing this week.

Simmons shot a 43 on Thursday, along with Maysville’s Jake Riggs, to share runnerup honor in the medalist race. Hamilton’s Shawn Cook grabbed that honor
