Janet Seery

Funeral services for Janet Seery were held Saturday, Feb. 25, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was at Winston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Janet Seery, 72, died Feb. 21, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Smithville.

Janet was born March 25, 1939, to Lawrence and Wilma (Hanes) Morris in Independence, Kan., where she graduated high school.

She was united in marriage to Robert Seery

VFW holds fund-raiser dance

Gallatin VFW Post 2172 will hold a dance open to the public from 7-11 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at the AV Spillman Building in Jamesport. There will be a live band — Dammit Jim & The Rednecks.

The AV Spillman Building is smoke free. It is located at 308 S. Broadway in Jamesport.

Help fight consumer fraud

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) encourages consumers to do their part to help stop telemarketing fraud.

Reports have been received that telemarketers place unsolicited phone calls to elderly consumers to pressure them into buying unwanted and unneeded services. Although a consumer will refuse to buy the services, they have received letters in the mail demanding payment for the services. Some letters contain phone invoices and threaten them with legal action

Turnkey, scanner, generator working well at jail

During their meeting held Friday, Feb. 24, the board of the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail heard that Turnkey is installed and all is going well; the Iris Scanner is installed and going well; and the generator is installed and working.

Mentors needed for offender empowerment program

The Offender Empowerment Program is made possible by the Second Chance Mentoring Grant awarded to Green Hills Community Action Agency by the Bureau of Justice.

The goals of this program are to provide pre and post release services to offenders who are incarcerated in the Chillicothe Correctional Center, Western Missouri Correctional Center and Crossroads Correctional Center.

Club chooses Girls State finalist

Laureate Delta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at Lois Barton’s home on Feb. 20 with eight members and one guest present.

Plans were finalized for the care center birthday party at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. Sue Gillilan reported on the Girls State finalist, Avery France. All four chapters are helping to sponsor Avery for the coming summer session. The chapter is donating money to the prom lock-in.
