Gallatin school board meets Jan. 19, 2012

The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, in the high school library.

Fifth grade class at Searcy presents tolerance

Fifth Grade students at Covel D. Searcy Elementary and their Partner in Education Terry Implement presented "Tolerance" January’s character trait of the month at a school assembly on Jan. 9. The students broke out into groups and wrote their own skit using Terry Implement owners Cyd and Bryce Terry as their conscience. Skits showed various ways to have tolerance in different situations. 2011-12 Wrestling: GHS wrestlers score medals at Plattsburg

Gallatin wrestlers brought home four medals from last weekend’s tournament at Plattsburg High School.

Peter Steele and Jimmy Dale each finished runnerup in respective 152- and 220-pound weight divisions. Michael Stanley took third in the 182- pound weight class. Blake Cornett placed fifth in the 126- pound class.

Steele came into competition with a 19-1 record and matched up in the championship against Brookfield’s Micah Blakely, who entered the tournament

2011-12 Basketball: Dogs chew up Panthers inside for 78-73 conference victory

Dexter Daniel, Preston Turley and Brandon Hunt combined for 66 points to lead Gallatin to a 78-73 Grand River Conference win over Polo on Tuesday, despite 27 turnovers, many of which game late in the game as the Bulldogs struggled to keep the lead.

2011-12 Basketball: GHS girls take third, boys drop consolation game in LIT

Gallatin’s girls defeated Richmond Friday night to capture third place in the Lawson Invitational Tournament, but the Bulldog boys failed in a bid to bring home the consolation trophy.

The Lady Bulldogs upped their season record to 7-5 with a 42-31 third place victory over Richmond. The GHS boys fell to 8-4 after a 56-45 loss to West Platte, but the Bulldogs will get another shot at the Blue Jays
