GHS concert and Searcy program coming in December

The Gallatin High School Christmas Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Searcy Elementary lunch room (the old gym).

Tis the season for H.O.P.E.

The ninth annual H.O.P.E. Food Drive was held the week before Thanksgiving at the Searcy Elementary School in Gallatin. H.O.P.E. stands for “Helping Other People Eat.” This year the students collected 533 food items which were donated to the Daviess County Food Pantry in Gallatin. The food drive was sponsored by Mrs. Cross’ kindergarten class. Mrs. Cross and her students appreciate everyone who contributed to this project. [Submitted Photo]

Gallatin school sells busses, looks at 4-day week

The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education accepted a bid of $2,611 for bus number 12 from the River of Life Baptist Church of Cameron, and a bid of $1,000 on the 21 passenger mini-bus from David Brown of Pattonsburg during their regular meeting held Nov. 17.

The resignation of Glenda St. John was accepted. She will retire at the end of the school year, June 2012.

2011-12 Wrestling: Bulldog wrestling begins Thursday at home

Fifteen Bulldog wrestlers take to the mat Thursday at 6 p.m. in what has become an annual season opener against the Marceline Tigers.

Gallatin will sport a mix of veteran and first-time grapplers. Senior Peter Steele is coming off a 35-9 record and third place finish in last year’s 140-pound state bracket. Junior Jim Dale (12-8) was also a state qualifier.

Ripken jersey offered in NCMC silent auction

The North Central Missouri College baseball team has announced its first silent auction, which is open now through Jan. 21.

Several sports-related items will be offered with the funds raised to be used to defray travel expenses of the Pirates baseball team, including the Ripken Experience, a college baseball activity held annually in Myrtle Beach, SC. 2011-12 Basketball: Dogs survive upset bid by Hawks to advance to semifinal round

It took the third-seeded Gallatin boys nearly 20 minutes to grab a lead in Monday night’s first round game of the Gallatin Invitational. Once they had it, they needed to hold on tight against upset-minded Gilman City.

The Bulldogs turned back a strong charge from the Hawks to win, 59-56, in a game in which the Hawks led for most of the contest, and by as many as 12 points

2011-12 Basketball: GHS girls score upset, get Thursday gig against rival Hamilton

One game into the 2001-12 season, Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs have already accomplished one important goal: play on Thursday night in their own tournament.

The municipal election process will soon begin for all cities and towns, townships, road districts, schools, ambulance districts, public water supply districts and six of the nine fire districts in the county.
