Sonnapalooza 2011 a big success

The "Sonnapalooza" fundraising event was held on July 16 at the Daviess County Country Club. A large crowd attended in support of the late Sonna Walker and her family. The extremely warm temperatures were at times nearly unbearable, however the many volunteers and attendees were committed to making it a successful day. The baby Show and talent Show were both well attended.

Winston students register Aug. 10, school starts Aug. 22

Winston R-6 student registration for all grades will be held on Aug. 10. An all-school open house will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Aug. 18. The first day of school will be on Monday, Aug. 22.

In other business at the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held July 21, the Tax Rate Hearing was set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 at the high school

Three from Winston hurt in accident

Three people from Winston were injured in an accident that happened at about 5:55 p.m. on July 25, in DeKalb County.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jerry Talbot, 52, Winston, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Express Van. John Keith, 28, Atalissa, Iowa, was driving a 2005 Kenworth Conventional. Both were eastbound on Hwy. 36.

North Daviess R-3 will start the new school year on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Jamesport Tiger team ends in top seed

The Jamesport Tiger baseball team was coached by Dean Swalley and Jesse Bird and assisted by Jim Hanson. The Tigers ended regular season play with a record of 7-3-2 and were seeded sixth to start tournament play. The team fought hard and went out in fourth place out of 16 teams. Garnett 19th in latest golf outing

Gallatin’s Brice Garnett shot a four-round total of 278 to finish in a seven-way tie for 19th place at last weekend’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational held in Columbus, Ohio.

It was Garnett’s second top 25 finish of the season. He will compete in the Utah Championship Presented by Utah Sports Commission from July 28-31 at Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah.

Tyler Alden receives scholarship to travel abroad

Tyler Alden of Hamilton received a once in a lifetime opportunity when he was selected to participate in the American Shorthorn Association’s Australian Ambassador Program. While in Australia Alden will stay with various Australian Shorthorn breeders and learn about rural Australia and the shorthorn breed.

Boy Scouts earn badges at Camp Geiger

Scouts and leaders from Gallatin Boy Scout Troop 67 recently spent a week at Camp Geiger. Along with camping experience the boys earn merit badges and practice the Duty to Family, Duty to God, and Duty to Country principals of scouting.
