Winston board hears animal control plan, requests for storage units

An animal control plan was presented to the Village of Winston Board of Trustees during their meeting April 4.

The Animal Control Officer/Ordinance Enforcement Officer will initially make community contact by letter to Winston residents. The letter will cover changes to ordinances. Any strays or nuisance dogs should be handled, complaints investigated, and outstanding warnings tracked. Occasional checks of rabies tags on loose dogs would also be helpful.

Pattonsburg hires cook, teacher, requests bids to fix roof

Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education rehired all non-certified staff for the 2011-2012 school year during a meeting held April 19.

Mary Cruthis was hired in a full time position as a cook/custodian. Kayli Warner was hired as a second grade teacher and assistant girl’s basketball coach. Jill Crabtree turned in her letter of resignation and retired with 10 years of service in the district. The list of extra duty assignments

Daviess County Nursing and Rehab

Hello. We would like to tell everyone about the coming events at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab.

May 3 at 10 a.m. we will have our Resident Council meeting.

May 8-13 is National Nursing Home week.

May 8 at 1:30 we will have a Mother’s Day Tea.

May 9 is Mexican Day. We will celebrate with festive decorations and food and a pinata for our residents.

Walker to remain Pattonsburg mayor

William (Gene) Walker will continue to serve as mayor of Pattonsburg for the time being, after a vote was taken by members of the city’s board of aldermen at their meeting held Wednesday, April 13.

There was a tie vote for mayor in the municipal election with Mr. Walker and Alex Sperry both receiving 24 votes. A city ordinance stated that the board of alderman could determine a tie vote;

Justin Heller apprehended

On April 20, 2011, at 1:28 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A and Kansas City Police Department SWAT teams apprehended Justin Heller in a home at 715 Jackson Street, Kansas City.

Heller was wanted for the assault of a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper that stemmed from an incident early that morning near Holt, in Clinton County.

Freedom of the Road riders roll through Gallatin

About 23 motorcycles carrying Freedom of the Road Riders (FORR) came through Gallatin on April 23.

Mayor Barb Ballew signed a proclamation declaring May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. Freedom of Road Riders promotes "Sharing the Road" with motorcycles to prevent accidents. Bridge repair continues at Hamilton

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that repairs to the MO 13 bridge over U.S. 36 Highway at Hamilton are scheduled to continue for one more week in April.

The work had been scheduled to be completed the week of April 11, but will now continue through the week of April 18. Eastbound traffic on U.S. 36 struck the bridge in December of 2010, damaging the bridge beams.
