GHS FBLA place in top 10 at state

Members of the Gallatin Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter recently attended the 2011 Missouri FBLA Leadership Conference held on April 17, 18 and 19 in Columbia.

Daviess County Men’s Golf League starts May 18

The 2011 men’s golf league at Daviess County Country Club is slated to begin Wednesday, May 18, at 5:45 p.m., and will continue each Wednesday through mid-August.

Changes for this year’s league include:

• No substitutes. If a team member is absent, the opponent will play against the missing player’s handicap, minus two strokes.

• Teams can select their teammates with some consideration for a high and low handicap participant.

2011 Golf: Willett 10th in GRC golf; team places third

Despite wet weather that limited golfers to only nine holes, Gallatin linksters performed well at the Grand River Conference Tournament held Monday in Bethany.

The Bulldogs combined for a team score of 205 to finish third in competition behind defending champion Hamilton (169) and Maysville (183). Worth County placed fourth (210), followed by Stanberry (228), Albany (233), South Harrison (240), King City (241) and Princeton (265).

Daviess County Courthouse News (4-27-11) – $24,000 settlement for destroyed bridge

 

County Commission

The commission discussed the bridge in Jefferson Township destroyed by a gravel truck in 2010. The truck’s insurance carrier contacted the commission offering to settle for $24,000. David Cox moved to accept the settlement in order to proceed with the re-construction as soon as possible. Danny Heldenbrand seconded. Cox – yes; Heldenbrand – yes; Sims – yes.

Sheriff’s website up and running

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has a website available for viewing. It includes information regarding CCW permits, paper service fees, identity theft, the administration and much more. The web address is www.daviesscountysheriff.com.

Train your brain and win

MoDOT contest educates Missourians about rail safety

Using safety precautions on and around trains and railroad tracks should be a no-brainer. Nevertheless, highway-rail crossing incidents increased in Missouri and 17 people were killed at crossings or on tracks in 2010. To elevate the public’s awareness about rail safety, the Missouri Department of Transportation is sponsoring a Train Your Brain contest during Rail Safety Week in Missouri on April 25-29.

North Daviess cuts out jobs, hires new staff

The North Daviess R-3 Board of Education eliminated some positions and cut hours on others during their meeting held April 18.

The full time cook position was eliminated. A part time cook position was opened. Both full time secretarial positions were eliminated. A part-time (six hour) secretarial position was opened.

Daniel Street was offered the summer custodian position with the hourly rate of $10.50 an hour. Wendell Burns was offered

No action taken on surveillance system for Winston school

The Winston R-6 Board of Education discussed installing a security surveillance system for the school, but no action was taken.

The board certified election results. The oath was administered to elected board members Barb Youtsey, Shelly Mason and Kendall Weigand. Officers are Barb Youtsey – president, Kendall Weigand – vice president, Shelly Mason – secretary and Lisa Piburn – treasurer.
