Chesterfield sighting confirmed to be a mountain lion

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed a mountain lion sighting in western St. Louis County. Garrett Jensen, of Chesterfield, recently contacted MDC with photographs taken Jan. 12 from a trail camera showing a mountain lion in a wooded area.

Hunters shoot mountain lion near Macon

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed that a group of hunters killed a young male mountain lion west of La Plata, Mo., on Jan. 22.

According to conservation agents investigating the incident, the group was hunting coyotes on a landowner’s farm when several came within 20 yards of the big cat. None of the hunters had dogs. Members of the group immediately contacted conservation agents to report the

City applies for grant for sidewalks around school

City Administrator Zac Johnson will be applying for a federal grant for "safe routes to school.

"The grant would allow sidewalks be placed around the school. He will be working with the school to apply for this grant in the next month.

Public comments were made regarding snow removal and the new water plant project.

Street Supervisor Teddy Holcomb stated that the city crews have been busy with snow removal.

Kinsey Batson accepts teaching position in Princeton

Kinsey Leighn Batson, a December 2010 graduate of Missouri State University in Springfield, has accepted a teaching position with the Princeton School District.

Kinsey’s primary responsibility is fourth grade students, but she is also responsible for teaching social studies to students in grades four through six at the new Princeton Elementary building.

D. Warner Bunch 1936-2011

David "Warner" Bunch, 74, Cameron passed away on Jan. 18, 2011.

Warner was born on Nov. 29, 1936 in Browning, Mo., to Lewis Delbert and Anna (Greenstreet) Bunch. They preceded him in death.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Cameron.

Warner was a veteran of the United States Army.

On Dec. 19, 1956, Warner married Carol Schnelle in Harris, Mo. She survives of the home.

Mid M. Welch 1917-2011

Mid M. Welch, 93 of Gallatin, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at her daughter’s home near Gallatin. Services were held at 11 am Tuesday, Jan. 25, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation was held 6 – 8 pm on Monday. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Senior Citizens Center.
