Congressmen espouse a renewed emphasis on "civility" these days. Last night President Obama spent an hour challenging those in Congress to work together to do more than just sit politely beside each other during the televised address. The economy, tottering on the brink of peril with high unemployment and runaway debt, prompted our president to declare this time as a "Sputnik Moment" in our country’s history.

Winston Homecoming is Jan 28, make up days listed

Winston Homecoming is Jan. 28. The basketball teams host Osborn.

Pep rally will be Friday at 2:15 p.m. at the school. Crowning of royalty will be after the game with a Winston High School student dance following the crowning.
Other business conducted at the Winston R-6 Board meeting held Jan. 20, included a report from Superintendent Brian Robinson that the following days are scheduled as weather make up days: Feb.

On Jan. 19 members of the Gallatin FCCLA chapter attended the Region 2 Officer Screening in Chillicothe. Covel D. Searcy Elementary to hold jump rope for heart event

The students at Covel D. Searcy Elementary are jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke—our nation’s #1 killer.

The week of Feb. 7-11, the school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance

Gallatin to host GRC Wrestling Tournament on Saturday

Gallatin High School will be bustling with activity on Saturday when the Bulldogs host the Grand River Conference Wrestling Tournament.

Matches begin at 9:30 a.m. for the all-day event. Third place and championship matches will be held on two mats, with awards going to the top four individuals in each weight class. Participating schools include Albany, Gallatin, Hamilton, Maysville, Polo, Rock Port, South Harrison, South Holt, Stanberry and Tarkio.

Top seeds move on to semifinals at Hamilton Tournament

In all but one case, the top four seeds in both girls’ and boys’ brackets advanced into the semifinal round in the 17th Annual Hamilton Tournament.

Monday’s games produced the only upset, albeit a mild one, when the #5 West Platte boys defeated #4 Putnam County, 62-61. In other Monday games, the #3 South Harrison boys blasted Trenton, 71-36; #4 South Harrison girls knocked off Putnam County, 50-38; and top-seeded

Wood cans six-of-six foul shots to lead GHS girls past Albany, 36-32

Gallatin’s girls battled back from an early 8-0 deficit to lead by eight at half over Albany’s Lady Warriors, but the Lady Bulldogs still needed a late rally to pick up their first Grand River Conference win of the season

The Lady Bulldogs led, 19-11, at the break, and 24-21 at the end of three periods. Albany took a brief lead in the fourth but couldn’t hold the pace.
