Vera R. Hillyard 1925 – 2010

Vera Rose Hillyard, 85, Pattonsburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2010.

She was born Oct. 9, 1925 in New Hampton, Mo., the daughter of Roy and Ona (Cummins) Woollums. They preceded her in death.

On Dec. 31, 1948, she married Charles Hillyard in Albany, Mo. He survives of the home.

She was a member of the Heath United Methodist Church. Vera sold Avon Products in Daviess County for 28 years.

George Buel Smith 1927-2010

George Buel Smith, 83, passed away at Morningside Center in Chillicothe, on Nov. 15, 2010, where he had resided for almost four years.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Jamesport. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery

Youth in Agriculture scholarship application now available

Applications for a Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship are now available online at www.mostatefair.com for Missouri high school seniors graduating in 2011. Applications submitted to the Missouri State Fair must be postmarked by Feb. 1, 2011.

Twenty GHS athletes receive academic all-conference awards

Gallatin R-5 football boosters warmed up a dreary, rainy night last Friday by saluting accomplishments of varsity cheerleaders and football players. A good crowd turned out for a carry-in meal and program in the GHS gym.

Booster club treasurer Alicia Chrisman welcomed the group and passed out gift certificates to senior athletes and cheerleaders.
